Barrie is no better than maatta. His defensive game is horrible. And weircioch does not equal pouliot.

Just because he's not scoring doesn't mean he's not good (though he has the second most points out of all Sabres dmen). + 1, 100.7 PDO with 54.4% Defensive zone starts. Even Corsi and Fenwick. He's been one of the more consistent Sabres defensemen.</i></div></div> He would still be a 3rd pairing at best with the pens though. You dont give up that much for a third pairing dman with only 1 year left.

Don't see the point, he's more valuable for this seasons playoff as a #3/4 dman than a random draft pick from Buffalo.</i></div></div> I am thinking more long term. If you leave reider which the pens should then they have a log jam at defenceman. It comes down to cole, schultz, maatta, or daley (Highly doubt pens move Tanger or dumo) cole and schultz pens definetly should keep considering they have played like an elite 2nd pairing. Maatta could possibly fetch more but he also has some high upside. So odd man out is daley. Obviously it doesnt need to be a draft pick, but needs to be something or someone that vegas cant touch.

Literally anyone but cole. He and schultz are playing like one of the best defense pairing in the nhl right now. Switch cole with daley and switch oduya with johns.

Letang is horrible in the powerplay. If you watch he rushes the puck and doesnt know how to manage the pace of play nor does he know how to set plays up. He is the defenseman at the top of the point so he qb's everything.

Dodnt think this would be an option. I think the pens would give him up for a late round pick which they could get quite easily.

Blues trade is horrible for the pens. Give up a great goalie prospect and our best defensive prospect and what will be a second for a couple months off shattenkirk? No thanks ill keep the prospects and picks everytime.

Dumo+Pouliot+Flower
Pens get screwed big time here. Dumo is better then hinka by alot. Pouliot has a higher ceiling than johns. And fluery is better than niemi. Yet all the oens get in return is a measley third.

Finally Ready For A Run
Pens hang up once they here that they have to pay 100% lehtonens salary and have to take hamhuis. If dallas wants fluery and daley than there wont be old overpaid players. I get that one of the goalies would need to leave but pens will select the cheaper and better option in niemi. There would also be some salary retained on the stars end. So replace lehtonen with niemi. Get rid of hamhuis all together. Add two prospects. Both solid B prospects (Ritchie, johns) then add a conditional first if the stars make the playoffs. If not then make the pick a second.

Faska is someone who we have a million of in the minors. Nameth is a good peice but no where near enough for fluery. The 2nd is usless sense dallas with a goalie will most certainly make the playoffs and the pick will basically be a third. Plus we take on lehtonen's contract which does us no good. Obviously lehtonen or niemi would have to be included but pens will want more if you are including him.</i></div></div> The value of goalies isn't all that high. Teams know Pittsburgh has to dump Fleury, so why would they pay top dollar? Secondly, Faksa has potential and with Pittsburgh up against the cap his salary makes him more valuable than Eric Fehr. Third, taking Lehtonen back isn't the end of the world; Pittsburgh would expose him and his buyout is easier if Dallas retains some salary.</i></div></div> Pittsburgh doesnt have to give up fluery though. They can stick with the fluery murray tandem and give vegas some picks to have them take someone like sheary or rust.

Perhaps with a condition of whether or not the pick is top 10. Still early in the season and they can certainly turn things around and make the playoffs.
