Marner is likely signed by TOR already if that’s all he settles for

Yep, only way is that Marner gets higher AAV and more than his reported ask (3 years with $10M)

Fact is teams are chasing Marner or else he would have signed a contract or offer sheet by now. Truth is these RFAs have very few suitors.

Leddy is Top 4 Dman, one of the best skating/puck moving defenders in the league. He is easily slotted next to Shea Weber on Montreals D1 pairing. 28 years old with years left on his contract. 3 straight seasons of 40+ points. Had down year offensively last season due to Barry Trotz defense first style of play.

10.5 is the offer sheet number for 5 years for your compensation lost of two 1st, one each of 2nd and 3rd. The moment you go higher than 10.6 AAV you'll be going into four 1st compensation. This is why Dubas wanted 10.5 million in dead IR money with Horton and Clarkson, so he can match 10.5 million offer sheet and not be forced to take the two 1st, one 2nd and 3rd package.

I would not go that far. Dubas will have to make a few trades in order to sign Marner to a big contract that he wants. If he was going to sign a bridge deal I believe he would have done so already. Leafs still over salary cap by 2.8+ million

Dubas makes zero trades and signs marner easily at 9.5m x 6. Believe he has already turned down 10m x 6.

So you're saying they will put Clarkson on LTIR and save about 5 million however signing Marner to 9.5 still puts them over the cap ceiling by about 4 million

I don't think its out of the realm of possibility that teams have made pitches to Marner. I think Marner is simply not signing them because his main goal is to stay with the Leafs........right now. If thing stay dicey and Marner feels Leafs aren't even willing to negotiate he may sign an offer sheet that doesn't quite blow the Leafs out of the water but just forces them to sign Marner slightly more than they'd like.

An offer sheet could just be a tactic as payback. Ahem Islanders....... 10.5m for 4 years. If Leafs sign they walk Marner straight to free agency, if they don't they only get two 1sts. 2nd and a 3rd.

The reality is Marner still has tons of time to negotiate a contract with the Leafs. But if push came to shove, I could see Marner talking to the Isles and saying ok offer me the above contract. Its a win win situation.

The Leafs match obviously. I think that Marner may accept that offer from the Islanders, but not the Leafs. However, it’s hard to say because in NYI you have guys like Lee making 7 million and Nelson at 6, Marner obviously thinks he is worth more than that.

Yes Leddy was really good, especially with the Blackhawks.
