SJ retool Oilers side of Kane deal

Created by: Oilyboy
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 20, 2019
Published: Aug. 20, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Its interesting...hard to say if its a good idea, Kane with 6 years at 7 million seems eerily like when Lucic was signed to his 6 year deal at the same age (28)...but Kane is a much faster skater than Looch ever was so there is less worry of Kane slowing down soon...

Its one I'm struggling to think about for positives and negatives...

What do you think is the worst part? Kane's contract is a bit scary, however he should be able to put up 2-3 straight 30 goal years with McD if healthy and 7mil for that in 2-3 years from now will be good value. But the last few years maybe not...then again, I don't see Nuge getting less than 7mil on his next longterm contract either.

Skill aside, I like Nuge's leadership and attitude towards the game a lot more, so there is that factor as well I guess...hard to say.

Well to start RNH is a better and more complete player then Kane and has a better contract and is our 1st overall pick who our fan base including myself very much loves. I posted a thread a few minutes ago of what the oilers roster could look like next year and it includes keeping RNH and if I were to trade him it would be for a much larger fish like Laine or Marner

Only issue there is that the Oil can in no way afford to have 3 8million plus forwards going forward and expect to have enough depth down the lineup (which they already lack evidently). Kane is not perfect but will probably provide several years of 30 plus goals and a lot of annoying grit at 7 mil, which could strangely be a bargain soon.

However, I agree that I prefer RNH from a team aspect, the guy has been a trooper. I just have so much concern for what the best plan is to get functioning wingers on the Oil...I really hope Benson tears it up and by Christmas we see Benson-RNH-Neal clicking as a line.

RNH does not pull marner or Laine without other moving assets going to TOR or WPG, maybe RNH Bear Yamamoto, just saying what you’d probably hear from other fans

Put a single skate on a traffic cone and and save the 2m you would be spending on Brassard. Oilers can't afford to spend money on anymore dead weight.

Of course not but I think it’s pretty close to value for either player I’d include bear in that package and a pick but not Yamamoto

You know what I like it. Sharks dont really need a center but it works because Hertl can go back on the wing. I think I take this deal and start talking to RNH about his extension right away
