It's probably better for him to face easier competition if he's playing with Ceci considering how he fared at 5v5 last year with Hainsey (who is slightly better than Ceci)

Could just be a 1A/1B type pairing scenario.

Yeah and Muzzin is better defensively so that line would be facing top lines

Yup and him and Barrie should be a solid pairing they're similar in ways but Barrie is like a 4th winger

$8.5m x 3 years would be the highest ever 3 year bridge deal in the salary cap era... that is an overpayment by ~10%

Certainly the Leafs haven't used Reilly like a so called # 1 (I'm still don't understand that term). Reilly played more than other Dmen but those additional minutes were because of his intensive use on the PP. He didn't play the heaviest minutes on the PK, though this year without Zaitsev and Hainsey he might have too.
As a Leaf supporter, I have no concern about the top four Reilly, Muzzin, Ceci and Barrie on who they play with. But until the competent Dermot returns from injury, can the the two other Dmen (who ever they are) be NHL good enough for their 14 minutes a game.

Leaf haters think the Leafs HAVE to pay Marner more than what any other person/team would.

Realistically I can understand why because they want us to be cap strapped.
