Description

GMBM and Jill Nill have a pretty good relationship so far. These 2 have done a couple hockey trades and a couple simple trades to move players. Dallas is in a tight cap crunch, and moving Honka would do little to fix that.

I thought originally a Kase for Honka straight would be the deal that made sense. But that is 1.5 mil moving back to Dallas and they can't quite afford it. I looked if there were any players Dallas would want to move to clear cap. My heart wants cogliano back, but I do not see this happening as well.

Luckily, Dallas only has 4 picks in 2020 currently. I imagine they would like to add on that and this is an easy way to do it. I don't know how much value Honka actually has at this point.

Over payment to land Honka as I'm sure one of the two pieces you sent them gets it done. There's also no way he's earned a $2.5M x 3 year contract as he's thus far only shown he's a #6/7 in the league albeit with middle pairing upside.

But GMBM has a habit of overpaying Defensemen. I dont see it being less than 2 Mil. Though it could be a backloaded contract like most bridge deals.

Im not sure where this idea that Honka is still a prized asset is coming from? He is on the edge of being a bust. By December of this year he'll be 24 and most players, not all but most players have cemented themselves as full NHL'ers. He can still turn it around but he is by no means a player that every team is clamoring to get because of that untapped potential. He could quite easily perform exactly what he did with Dallas so far on a new team. That is also a possibility.

By the end of this year, he'll be considered entering his prime and still not a lock on any teams blue line.
