I'd honestly rather see if we can get Drouin. Younger, more control and has some nice playmaking ability. It won't happen, but something I'd personally be interested in

Value here is good, I think Saad would be a nice add for Florida, but they probably would be looking for a defenseman in a deal for Hoffman

Interested to see what they do next offseason. They are paying 5 guys as top 4 dmen, and if Gus has 60 points again they’ll have to pay him too. Then where do their 1st rounder d prospects fit in? It’ll be interesting

Hawks will likely let Gus walk as Boqvist will step in next season and fill that offensive D guy role. De Haan or Maatta will be traded or Maatta bought out as his buyout is only $650K. Hawks defensive depth in the AHL is deep, plenty of guys will be ready to step in as a 3rd line guy such as Beaudin, the 2018 #27th pick.

Hoffman is hands down better then Drouin. Drouin at this point is a bust. Saad has better numbers and plays a 200 ft 2 way game whereas Drouin is purely offense only and is about equal to Saad's offensive production. A fair trade would be Drouin for Saad given their age but I'd rather keep Saad given his defensive abilities.

Still have no idea how Drouin is a bust, but I agree that I'd rather keep Saad. Honestly, if Hoffman comes here, I want an extension attached to him. As good as I think the Hawks will be, I'm not willing to give up big packages for rentals until we KNOW they're for real. Hoffman would be a really nice get though, don't get me wrong

I just see Hoffman as a perfect fit for Toews and Kane. He's a true shooter, Kane and Toews are not as much. Kane is a playmaker passer, Toews is a 200 ft net front presence, but they need a shooter on that line. As much as I'd like to see Cat fill that role, he's just too small to play against other team's top lines. He's not elusive like Kane to avoid hits.

That's a good point. When you describe it like that, it makes it obvious why they're so high on Nylander....

Unrelated, but if Nylander excels, hopefully he can fill that role. It's a big "if" but he's got all the offensive ability in the world

But not much hockey IQ, his defense is horrible and his hesitation is not NHL worthy

Only on condition that Hoffman’s wife stays in Florida.

Did he marry her? It was her girlfriend at the time.

Agree here except I think Saad and Drouin would cancel each other out. Oak how many years Drouin has left but if it is close to Saad’s Years then you minds well just keep Saad.

Drouin has 4 years left versus 2 for Saad. That to me is a big part of the equation here.
