First, the whole Isles scouting the Jets situation could easily have been the fact they have two games against them this month and they don’t play often so you need up to date scouting reports.

The Jets probably won’t make a trade until they know about Buff, if he is coming back. If they did make a trade Mayfield is not going to return a top end winger like Ehlers. Ho-Sang has limited value now, he will get moved for another player in a similar situation.

Also the Isles cannot add big salary this year with Pulock and Barzal set for new contracts this summer.
