While Turris has more bounce back potential, he also has 2 years longer at a considerably higher salary. If the Preds want to make a legitimate run this year they could use the cap space.

You to add-in... why because you have Turris in your actual lineup and Alzner is in Laval!

Exactly, the Preds could bury Alzner and save even more. While I wouldn't be opposed to a small add on the Habs side, Lehkonen has far too much value.

Got to understand, this is a cap move by Nashville and a risk/reward play by the Habs.

Two things, cap space value isn't an exact science. Saving 2m in cap for one team isn't the same for another necessarily. Secondly, teams prefer to mitigate their losses rather than get out from underneath completely at the full cost of doing so.

I would think a more attractive scenario for Nashville would be to trade Turris with retention, (He's still good, just not worth his contract anymore) and open up the market. Plenty of teams are willing to take Turris on for cheap, they just don't want to pay full price. Otherwise they have to send cap back which defeats the purpose. So instead, retain, lets say 50% of Turris to X team for a prospect and a pick.

This would be cheaper on a yearly basis than Alzner and would yield assets in return for an asset they themselves spent assets getting.
