Description

Do you think that if we did sign him out of the draft and keep him around, that we would have the same D-core? I mean, obviously not EXACTLY the same, but the general same big pieces. I think that a Leddy-Spurg pairing would be great (although I am still a huge fan of Leddy-Boychuk), but would we even have got Boychuk if we had solid top-4 defenseman like Spurg in our core? Would we still have him now? What's your thoughts?

You may as well go full butterfly effect and reassess every draft, trade and signing between when he entered the league and now.

These thought experiments are fun, but they always leave me begging for a lobotomy. Can't even count the number of times I've had the mental argument that "Sens win the cup in 07-08 if they keep Hossa and Chara over Heatly and Redden".

Sens fans always bring up the nonsense...Reddon over Chara. Chara was UFA...he wasn't returning to the Sens, it wasn't Sens management choice to have Chara as long term Senator.
Where the Isles made the Boychuk mistake is after they traded for him, they tried to justify the trade by signing him to an long extension. Way to long an long an extension. Similarly IMO the Sharks are going to regret the Karlsson extension.
