Pens trade is really bad for Minnesota

NJ trade is decent but doesn't really do much for either team, pretty lateral move overall

Toronto declines

Boston probably declines

I like the Pit trade because I think Jarry could be a good replacement for an aging Dubnyk and the 2nd rounder to help restock the pipeline. Wild can take JJs contract since they will be rebuilding with younger lower paid players and it helps to make the deal happen. The Devils deal is kind of a wash except change of scenery can sometimes help players improve and Gusev has played with Kaprizov so that could help next year. Toronto trade would make them better and they need to do something or miss the playoffs. The Boston trade allows them to dump Backes's contract for a much cheaper and more productive Staal, though they may opt to offer draft pick over losing Beecher.

This is a 7 year rebuild team, with the help of the expansion draft in 2 years, so right now I would be loading up on draftpicks for the next 3 years, and figuring out your spots for expansion with 22 year olds so there mid to later prime when suter and Parise are off the books. So any trades right now, should be something shiny, draftpicks or somebody that doesn’t have to be protected in expansion.

I agree and IMO These trades achieve that.

I don’t know the Bruin that is coming back with backes, and would wonder if donato was part of future solutions, but I haven’t followed this squad enough to truly comment. If you agree I agree, I would possibly cut a little deeper, with the new gm getting a longer rope, and early criticism is easier to take than when the seat gets hot.

The Pens trade doesn't make sense, the wild have 2 solid goaltending prospects in the AHL with another solid one still in juniors. It's true that Dubby is on the decline but Jarry isnt a proven starter, he's always shared the crease with another goalie at the NHL level. if the Wild are making this trade then they must be certain that their goaltending prospects will not be ready in the next 5 years. Your basically trading a young (23yrs), skilled player and a cheap 7th d-man for a pick, a slow footed 6/7 dman (that's also expensive), and a goaltender who's career save percentage is lower than Dubbys save percentage last year (which was considered a down year). IMO MIN declines

NJD Trade:
Zucker (proven player, solid 2-way winger, fan favorite) and donato (skilled but needs work) have more value than a third liner and a skilled player who's completely unproven at the NHL level. IMO this trade doesn't really help the Wild. MN Declines

TOR Trade:
Basically swaping backup goaltender (and trading away a player whos well liked in the locker room), swapping top 4 d-man (wild get older but more physical), and Hyman and Foligno have similar roles (Foligno is more physical and Hyman is more skilled). IMO this trade is kind of a wash, MN declines.

BOS Trade:
Staal is a 2nd line center who has half the salary as Backes who is a 4th line center and was scratched multiple times last year for Boston (including in the playoffs). By himself Staal is worth at minimum a low 1st rounder or high second rounder based on the type of player he is to what your paying him (good 2nd line center for 3 mil is a steal) . Add that with the fact that MN is taking on a much larger contract for a lesser player then your talking Beecher and another pick in return. MN declines

The only reason why I like this is because it will be cool to see Gusev and Kaprizov together again. However I think a Fiala for Gusev swap makes more sense given that Fiala can join Fellow Swiss Mueller in NJ. Decent idea! Though I'm not sure about the other moves.
