The only Kovalchuk trade that makes sense.

Kovalchuk might be the last guy in the league that Barry Trotz would want in his lineup. The player and system could not be a worse fit.

Can't see the Kings going for this. As it stands they get out from under Kovalchuk's contract after next season. This would give them two additional seasons of expensive dead weight.

Bellows isn't enough compensation for taking on two years of Ladd's contract.

at least Ladd plays some defense. Only benefit is you get out of the deal two years earlier, but at what cost? not sure its worth it, cause kovy would not fit in this system

Getting out from the contract is the biggest benefit. Don't have to play around with LTIR or worry about expansion. Give Kovy the rest of the season IMO. If it doesn't work out try to flip him next season with 50% retention. He was still on a 43 point pace with not so great linemates. Way more production than you'd get with Ladd
