Description
Saw the idea from Old_Snowman and ran him/her it. Giving them credit.

I added an unconditional pick because Eriksson has the higher cap hit by $750,000. That way there's no retained salary.

I don't see Detroit doing this. Neilsen is the better player and has 1 less year on his contract. It would need quite a bit more than a 4th to get this done.

Eriksson and Nielsen have the same term left on their deals. Eriksson's cap hit is $750,000 higher than Nielsen's, which is why I added the unconditional pick.

I would agree that Nielsen > Eriksson, but if both GM's are just ready to cut ties and get a fresh start then maybe it could happen. Neal was always better than Lucic too.

Agreed with Canucks33. Plus if you include the bonuses and everything and since Eriksson's contract was front loaded but Nielsen's was not, Eriksson is only owed $13 million over the next 3 years in real time money while Nielsen is owed slightly more at $13.5 million. Have a look for yourself in the total salary section.

As a Detroit fan I agree that isn't worth a 4th. They do have the same term.

But that's not the reason Detroit says no. Yzerman had multiple chances to take on a cap dump where the contract is in it's final year and he didn't. With the players Detroit has to resign and having cap space for a UFA would be nice. Yzerman will have a good idea he has and what he needs by the end of the season. The way things are going every player on the Griffens will have played a couple of games in Detroit.

Do teams actually put conditions on 4th round picks? REAL QUESTION I'm not being a smart ass.

If I'm Yzerman I'd have zero interest in this, when guys are past 33 years old they're also past the point of just needing a fresh start and I'd also rather just keep Nielsen cause he expires sooner and can play center, a 4th round pick wouldn't be nearly enough for me to consider this trade.

This trade would barely impact their cap structure. An extra $750,000 shouldn't be the difference between re-signing their players and maybe 1-2 UFAs as well.

Also, teams put conditions on any type of pick really. Tampa got a conditional 7th for Domingue this year.

The contracts expire at the same time.

If you feel that the Canucks would need to add more, then that's fair.
