Do you mean as in based off their expectations? Savard, Hammer, Walker, etc.. are most definitely not the best players on their teams

I will argue that Pasta has been better than Marchand, this year at least, and I've barely even heard of Sean Walker lmao, that's how irrelevant the kings are (plus Miller has been better than Boesser this year imo)

savard is easily the best player on the blue jackets
hjalmarsson is the best dfd in the league and could be considered at top 10 D
walker is the only player id even consider to be good on the kings bar clifford

If you seriously think any of those things you said, you shouldn’t be on this site. That’s the worst takes I think I’ve ever read on here.

This is a good list. I like this list. Good job.

Disagreements: I like Nylander as much as the next guy (well, I guess unless you're the next guy) but he isn't better than Matthews. He defends better, but Matthews provides a lot more offence thanks in part to his elite shot, along with just generally generating more chances than Nylander by most models. He is better.

Pettersson is really, really, really good. He would be Toronto's best player if he keeps up his pace from his rookie season. Like, he could possibly make the Death Incarnate line better good. Boeser's good, but he isn't that good.

There's definitely a decent argument for Hammer as Arizona's best skater, even with his utter lack of offense. I wouldn't put him as a top-10 D in the league just because of how little he provides on offence or in transition, but he is really good. Thing is, Raanta and Kuemper have both put their names in the convo for best goalie in the league (Raanta whenever he's not injured). I'd probably have at least one if not both ahead of Hjalmarsson, good as he is.

Savard's numbers this year have actually been a lot better than I was expecting when I looked him up. PLD's still 2.5 GAR ahead of him though.

I love the Sean Walker inclusion, he's been on an absolutely insane tear to start this year. Is it sustainable? No idea, but holy crap has he been good.

Well-made list. Points for having one in there I thought was wrong off the cuff but realized was right after I looked it up a bit.

So far this season Savard ranks 9th on the Jackets in goals above replacement, behind PLD, Nash, Emil Bemstrom, Murray, Bjorkstrand, Foligno, Lilja and Werenski.

Hjalmarsson is probably the best Dfd in the league, but he's well below replacement level on offence. I would call him top-10 just yet. His total GAR over the last few years is only 7.5, not particularly elite. His GAR/60 isn't much better.

Walker point is fair.

Ummm. Kessel, Keller, OEL, Schmaltz, etc.. looool

And PLD/ Jones EASILY way better than savard. Nylander also most definitely isn’t better than Tavares / marner / matthews. Scheifele over Morrisey, etc... I can pick apart most of your list other than the obvious ones

highly doubt walker is sustainable lmao, but like, LA is just a trash team all around and i feel theres no real "right" answer for them.

savard actually has a better 2016-19 GAR than PLD. i think the only thing that changes when you factor in their GAR totals for this season in that is that PLD has a slightly better EVO GAR, but savards EVD GAR is so much better (i think by about 16)

arizona is weird, i had raanta over hammer last year, but injuries are weird and goalies are also weird. id def say that he, kuemper, and raanta are arizonas top-3 players

and shhhhh, just let me believe nylander is better (do i even think he is? i dont know) in peace

jones isnt even a top pairing defenseman, PLD is the only fair argument. nylander is better than marner and probably tavares.

Amusingly, despite Hammer only ranking 8th on the Coyotes in GAR from the start of the last year, you didn't manage to name any of the players ahead of him. Savard's GAR this season is actually 0.2 ahead of Jones. Nylander's been significantly better than Marner at evens for their entire careers (less so when compared to AM/JT).

Not sure how I missed the Schiefele point. You got me there.

Jones?? Are you serious. And nylander most definitely isn’t better. I like analytics a lot, but you can’t base all your arguments off of them and I feel like that’s what you’re doing with this list. It’s a combination of points, eye test, analytics, etc... to draw conclusions on players.

GAR is a bad Advance stat. Jack Johnson has one of the best GAR on Pittsburgh. Defend that one. Analytics aren’t everything. They’re a great tool, but so is common sense. You’re over thinking this

jones has a n 11.6 GAR 2016-19 with a -0.9 EVD

savard also has a higher 2016-19 xGA/60 and xGF/60

jones is very overrated.

Damn, I have been sleeping on David Savard. Those are some nice numbers.

Still, he's only got an edge of 0.5 GAR with 2 thousand more minutes of TOI in the timeframe on PLD. I'm willing to bet PLD'd be higher if the TOI were even.

Respect the refusal to evaluate goalies. Richardson's been sneakily really good for the Coyotes as well, though.

ive been high on PLD, but his WOWY with panarin is kinda sketchy. im confident him and savard are the top 2 for CBJ, but itll be interesting how the rest of this season pans out for them

No, it’s called using them appropriately and with common sense. Obviously there are some outliers in these advance stats. Any rational hockey fan knows Jones >>> savard. Or how Hammer isn’t the best player on his team.

Like I said, when evaluating players there are multiple factors to consider such as eye test, point production, etc...
