Justin Schultz resigns for 3 years 18 million. The Penguins trade him, Nathan Legare and 1st round pick for Mitch Marner. Deal or no deal?

Marner and Malkin could be pretty good together, but I'm not quite sure the penguins have cap space to take him on.

They have some players on expiring contracts this offseason. If they get Marner (which they won't), I doubt Galchenyuk and Schultz will be back. That's 9 million right there, which would still put them right up against the cap. You don't think Marner would work well with Crosby?

double post.

I believe the Jets would be interested in Muzzin. Not sure a first or roster players would be on the table, but any other combo of picks and prospects not named Niku would be available

No deal. Leafs sign Shultz in off-season (they won’t) keep marner. Saw some stats on Schultz. Why do we want two ceci’s?

@Eli personally I don’t see leafs making any trades. Apart from Babcock the leafs also had a large roll over of players. Think that needs to be sorted out while getting used to a new system. Maybe a trade closer to TDL when we see what fits, what doesn’t and where we are in the standings.

Exactly. We completely agree for once. That was my point in this post. They may call up some of the new guys from the Marlies, but that's about it.

Teams making coaching changes seldom make a lot of trades at the same time. Unless they hired a jerk who needs to show he's boss by kicking out a star player, but it doesn't sound like Keefe is that type of guy.

I'd expect a very quiet deadline, as the team focuses on learning a new system and figuring out how to play together. Whether this results in playoffs or draft lottery, it will be hailed as an auspicious beginning of a new era.

I don't think Marner is worth 11 million and it's contracts like that which are causing TOR to have issues.
If you are going to pay a guy like a 40+ goal scorer, you better get 40 goals out of him.
I don't care how many assists you racked up. You have to be dangerous with the puck to get that kind of salary. Too many teams gave up way to much to players who can't score on their own.
Between him and Panarin this off season. That's a bad trend to get into. GM would be wise to avoid such deals.
Yes they are both good players. They aren't worth 11 million.

How on earth will the Penguins keep Crosby and Malkin forever, if salaries keep going up when the salary cap goes up? Oh no!
