Your complaint was Matthews only has 4 more years left. So Dubois was the elc and korpisalo must be your other franchise player with term since apparently 4 more years isn’t term. Mind you, Toronto is also giving up two great prospects on elc and another b prospect.
Bracco's NHL ready. The only reason he's not in Tor is that they didn't want to expose Tymashov to waivers. He's the Marlies' best wing again this year, and he's ready to play in the NHL.
Losing Korpisalo leaves CBJ with zero career wins at goalie. Tor could throw in Woll or Kas without changing that. It's an instant tank for Columbus.
They're 12th in the East. The top 8 make the playoffs. Tampa and Toronto, widely regarded as top contenders, are between CBJ and the 8th place Flyers. So is Buffalo who started out in first in the league through 10 games, and might put it back together.
With no goalies who have won an NHL game, they probably get to about 30th overall by the end of the season.
They draft a center who is as good as Dubois and play him on the 2nd line behind Matthews, to develop as Liljegren and Sandin develop into at least a 2nd pair, maybe more.
The return in the trade is light, but the difference between picking 10th overall and picking 1st or 2nd eases the pain. I posted another version showing next year's Blue Jackets with Lafreniere, even though I think if they win the draft lottery, they trade down to fix a couple team needs and draft a center.
