Byfield

Created by: Linie057
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 22, 2019
Published: Nov. 22, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The intention would be to trade away Stome and Georgiev during the offseason or until the trade deadline.
The future Top 9 would be in place, same goes for the goalies. On defense there are enough prospects upcoming the following years so the rebuilt would be completed.

A) Trading Strome at the deadline would be preferable, because you might get a premium for a playoff run. But you are right to trade him; he's going to want more money than NYR should feel comfortable giving him.
B) Trading WAY too much for Puljujarvi. Neither of those players should be moved for him, and he does not want to play for EDM again so they really do not have a ton of leverage.
C) Not worth trading Howden for those picks. Not everyone can agree on labeling him a top 9 C, but I think most could agree that he could be an NHL Center. He could be a longer term solution to the 4C position.
D) Byfield is great, but I would not project him to start at 3C to start the season. They may want to give more time for whoever they draft in the upcoming draft.
E) I assume you traded Kreider too?

So you're thinking Byfield is better than Lafreniere?

No but I think Byfield would be a better fit for the Rangers. If they get 1st overall they should draft Lafreniere without a doubt.

A) It would be the best solution, but if they won´t trade him I could see him getting a similar contract that Hayes got in his final year.
B) The problem is that I don´t have high hopes for Anderson and Hajek. That trade would happen during the offseason so there is enough time to figure out how much worth those 2 have. But your right it would be EDM who would have to add another piece in that trade
C) Keeping Howden or trading him wouldn´t make much of a difference for me
D) I believe he will be NHL ready and wil also play center. So if they would get him he would play in that spot or maybe swapping places with Chytil, who knows.
E) Yes keeping Kreider would not make much sence in my opinion even though I really like him. But we would regret that contract very soon and I don´t think he will take much discount to stay with the Rangers

B) disagree here, that's not nearly enough for Puljujarvi + 2020 2nd. Andersson has less value than JP by himself, and Edmonton has no need for another LHD as they're overflowing with good ones already and they have more prospects coming.
C) what is Howden worth? He's not likely to ever be more than a 3C, and at this point he isn't a very good 3C.

Not a huge fan of these deals. Seems like you're selling low across the board And I'm not sure you improved the team.

Do you think Lafreniere is a generational talent, possibly better than Matthews?

To me it does not matter if one is high on Lias and Hajek or not; not a fan of moving them for Puljujarvi because you probably do not need to move them to acquire Puljujarvi. EDM will eventually come down from its asking price.

We can forget about EDM sending a 2020 2nd. Puljujarvi wants out of the EDM organization, so EDM likely has little leverage, and it's likely diminishing by every week he's playing in Finland. Lias is still playing in the AHL, has a strong two-way game, and is only 21. GMs love center prospects, who are more valuable than winger prospects typically. Key here: It's not really a question of whether who is better between Lias and Puljujarvi, but more of a question of do the Oilers really have the leverage to ask for a Lias Andersson when offering Puljujarvi. I do not think they do, and the more time passes, the stronger my answer becomes. The more EDM waits to move him, the less they will get for him. I just would not offer Lias or Hajek for him.

I don't know why you think the Oilers have no leverage in the JP situation. They own his rights for the next 6 years and have 100% control over when and where he plays in the NHL.

As far as Andersson goes, JP is playing in an equivalent league and killing it. Andersson is not. They are the same age. Puljujarvi has more value, and the more he plays in Finland the more he proves that value.

Sure but they'll never get to use him! They can easily walk away from trade talks but they'll never get any value from him or for him. If that want to trade they will have to come down from their asking price; nobody would want to or need to pay a high price for an asset the other team will never be able to use.

And I think many would argue the AHL is much better than Liiga but we can agree to disagree.

According to NHL equivalencies Liiga and AHL are pretty much neck and neck.
