Hall trade based on Stone trade

Description
I'm sure there's some variation of this out there buried under all the hundreds of other Hall trades, but thought I'd give my take.

I haven't seen one person agree on what a good Hall trade looks like on here so I'm going purely off the framework used in the Stone trade and selected a team based on this article : https://www.forbes.com/sites/mattkalman/2019/12/02/5-potential-trade-destinations-for-taylor-hall/#594bc119ba0a

I also have no idea what NJ actually needs in terms of return because they already seem good on paper but can't find success so I'm going to choose value instead of needs (i.e. maybe NJ needs a goalie, but i'm going to choose a forward prospect with more value).

Note: with the Stone trade, Ottawa did not receive a first round draft pick back, so that will be off the table with this trade despite the deep prospect pool in the upcoming draft.

It was hard to choose between Caufield and Poehling. I'd say Caufield is Habs top prospect but in reference to the Stone trade, I think Caufield is better than Brannstrom so I went with Poehling

NJ:
1. Star player
2. Guy who might play in the bottom 6 a few times a year

MTL:
1. Top (or second best) prospect
2. A guy who's played in the NHL for a while and slot into the lineup
3. A decent second round pick
Trades
MTL
  1. Hall, Taylor
  2. Mermis, Dakota
Additional Details:
Hall re-signs for like 8x11.5 or something. I don't think he's worth over 10 but he'll get what he wants probably.
NJD
  1. Cousins, Nick
  2. Poehling, Ryan
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (CHI)

ottawa's market for stone became very limited as stone wanted to sign only with vegas. thats why vegas had majority of the power. for a hall trade, he might not want to resign in mtl. if he only wants to sign in mtl and mtl alone, than the trade can be talked about. as Nj doesnt want to resign Hall either

wasn't aware he only wanted to sign with VGK, can't blame him thought. Especially coming from Ottawa.

That's not true..

Yes, options were limited on Stone. He only wanted to go to a cup contender.. Winnipeg, Calgary, Nashville, Dallas and Vegas were known to be in the mix.

Also, Hall was happy (and pissed when he got traded) in Edmonton. I am sure he'd be happy in Montreal (if they can show that they're going to be able to contend for years to come).

Nope..

Vegas was the only team willing to trade quality (Brannstrom) over quantity. PD made it clear that he wanted quality since they got quantity for Dzingle, Duchene and Karlsson (which are all looking like good trades now)

Stone was also ready to sign to Winnipeg (he's from there). But Winnepeg wasn't willing to trade Vesalainen. It seems like they were offering Niku which was just not good enough.

I really hope Montreal doesn't make this trade. You don't win giving players that much money. You have to balance out the wealth if you want to win in today's NHL
