Ye sorry. I thought you were doing the playoff. Let’s say Granlund + a 2nd vs Tatar

if they don't make the playoffs -- no point in trading picks. Would rather just trade Granlund for picks/prospects probably

Why? I may be wrong but you have a solid team and a guy like Tatar who is a big upgrade on Granlund may help you going far in the playoffs. Also, Rinne is getting old and your winning opportunity is closing. I feel like it’s a good gamble for both teams at short and longterm

Really confused by this trade. Montreal wants the 1st, but also grab Granlund because they want to still try and make the playoffs? Then why get rid of Tatar? As for Nashville, they're 1st is a lottery pick right now, for them to make this trade the pick would have to be protected and then swapping Granlund for Tatar is a smallish upgrade. Both players are pretty equally talented. If you are just looking at points this year, that isn't a very good representation of values. Granlund should easily have a lot more points by this time. he's just having a bad season but could easily turn it around. On the flipside Tatar is having a great season but would he in Nashville? No one knows for sure. Vegas thought they were getting that player too and that didn't work out.

Tatar could easily get 1st+ in a trade right now if they wanted. No point is adding Granlund as that only muddies the point in trading away Tatar to begin with. By that same token, Nashville, or any team for that matter, shouldn't be trading unprotected 1sts.

The value isn't necessary bad here, its just the reasoning behind is conflicting. I don't see this happening as a result.

The big part of the trade was the 1st round (obviously top 10 protect). Then, I feel like Granlund is a good gamble to take ( like Tatar in the Pachiiretty trade) and it’s the type of trade MB would do because Habs are like in a simili rebuild ; we should look into the future But because we’re in Mtl, Molson wants to keep a competitive team. Also, I feel like Granlund is a good fit with MTL. He is Finnish and he could fit perfectly in the energic habs type of play.
For the preds, Tatar fills the need of a 2nd line LW and he is a better fit than Granlund. So, if they miss their shot on Hall, Tatar could be cheaper and maybe a little bit better right now. But, there’s still the risk that he flop like in Vegas and that’s what could make the preds hesitate. But, I think that if he play top 6 minutes, it should be a great addition for the preds.

But the Habs are trying to make the playoffs. Take any team in the NHL and trade away their top point player and what are they supposed to think? That's why Im confused. I understand what you are trying to do and frankly Im ok with it but is Molson? Are the Fans?

I'm ok with Nashville wanting Tatar and with Montreal trying to get picks and prospects but it has to come one or the other IMO this year.

If Habs are out of the playoff run, Tatar for picks and prospects.
If they are making the playoffs, why on earth would they trade Tatar now?
If Nashville is making the playoffs, they'd want to keep Granlund and Tatar.
If they are not making the playoffs, they wouldn't want to trade their 1st round pick.

Too many IF's for this to work exactly as intended at the moment. If at the TDL things are more clear, then maybe this trade becomes easier but right now its a lot of gamble for nothing.

It’s obviously if the habs miss the playoff and if Nashville have a willingness to make the playoffs but I agree that for now there’s no need for this trade for both teams.
