A Team Like That - Kings Trade

Created by: Tmclean64
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 31, 2019
Published: Dec. 31, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Why the Kings do this:

They get 3 players who are better than some of the guys in their lineup. Gives their young guys more time to get some seasoning in the AHL.

Schaller is a solid checking fwd and penalty killer, can chip in with a few points also. Plays a hard Kings style game.

Sven and Goldy may fit well on this roster. The Kings have a type of lineup both these guys can thrive in with their line mates making time and space for them to use that skill.

They also get a 2nd round pick in this years draft which is well timed to help speed up the rebuild.

Canucks do this to upgrade the top 6, shed a bit of cap this year for bonus overages and gets Sven off the books to help resign their guys for next season.

I made a Baertschi to Caps post. Not sure if it works for either side. Kind of trying to build off your idea in a less exciting way. Just sort of changes of scenery all around, with Van saving a tiny bit of money and clearing a roster spot, and WSH getting younger at RW:

I can see why people are targeting top 6 wingers for the Canucks, but I think it’s suicidal to trade away picks for this team.

One of their firsts is gone this year or next. Trading a second now is a good way for this team to repeat the mistakes of the Gillis era

Suicide to not have a first and a second in one draft? With the amount of prospects we currently have? Come on..

Fwd: Podkolzin, Hoglander, Lind, Macewen, Madden, Lockwood, Focht, Jasek, Gadjovich, Perron

Def: Juolevi, Rafferty, Brisebois, Sautner, Chatfield, Teves, Woo, Rathbone, Eliot, Utonen.

Goalies: Demmer, Dipietro, Silovs

This teams prospect cupboard is loaded, giving our team some playoff experience and shedding svens contract to get our ufas ans rfas signed next year is well worth shedding spare parts and a late 2nd.

Obviously all these guys will not make it.

So without a first and second round pick, you think they will have any impact players in that draft? It’s almost like a lost draft year.

The key to having a sustained winning team is to continue to have a strong prospect pool so you can replace veterans with cheap young players and have assets to acquire key pieces.

Still believe your thought process is a recipe for disaster

4 Years + of Miller was well worth the 1st, cant even argue that. You act like we got nothing for that pick, so we arent without a first like you say we are. Flawed logic.
Gaudette - 4th round
Dipietro - 3rd round
Madden - 3rd round
MacEwen - Undrafted
Stecher - Undrafted
Rafferty - Undrafted
Rathbone - 4th Round

These are some of our best young players who all have a chance to play in the NHL, some already are. 1st and 2nd round picks are not the only way to grow a team.

Trading one late 2nd rounder does not mean disaster for this team at all.. What would be a disaster is to have Svens contract on the books come summertime and it causes us to not resign one of; Leivo, Gaudette, Virtanen, Stecher or Tanev.

That would be a disaster, all those players are much more important than your late 2nd rounder which wont be ready for 3 Years and isnt guarenteed to be anything at all. These guys are NHLers and give us the depth we need to be competitive now.
