During the last three seasons at 5v5, Benning has ranked 18th among NHL defense-man with over 2300 minutes played in goals for percentage with a 54.87
For
The worst Defensive forward in the NHL and maybe history of NHL and only 5 goals this year.
Not a bad trade really.

Name me one reason why Detroit would want Riley Sheahan back? And Benning is a RD we don't need we're set there. Once again this package isn't netting you AA.

Fair enough. Still think AA has more upside than Benning

Not a good trade either, Detroit doesn't want Sheahan back. And we're set a RD for the foreseeable future with Hronek and Seider anchoring the top 4 at RD and probably Lindstrom on the bottom. Don't need a 25 year old RD in Benning. Caleb Jones+2nd round pick might be more enticing.

That works great for me as I would rather keep Benning, as the oilers are much much better with him in the line up

Now yes is pretty bad at D but as a team Detroit's team D is really bad as well but Benning's D is well below average as well. Now if you think AA is so bad why trade for him?

Read my thread. I think it is a (one or more wingers) it explains why on it. But I like josh Anderson a lot as well.

First Detroit doesn’t have to trade AA and for this offer I seriously doubt they do. Every one knew Detroit was going to be bad this season with 3 defenseman in they final year of their contracts and several prospects that are going to take their place. So you’re looking at about 9D in your rotation then with the injuries now you add in a couple of defensemen that have no business in the NHL but have no choice. It pretty much means Detroit’s defensemen aren’t going to be able to form any chemistry with eachother. After 44 games last year Detroit had 124 goals for and 151 goals against and this year they have 96 goals for and 167 against. Now once they move out some of their players 30 and over I think it will be 4 or 5 of them. The point I’m trying to make is they will be better next season as a team. So they will be better next season still not a playoff team but better. So instead of trading AA when he at his lowest value hold on to him for another season and see if he rebounds if he doesn’t then I’m sure Detroit will get the same low ball offers they are getting now. The point I’m trying to make is your offer may be where AA’s value is now but if thats the case why not hold on to him for another season. It’s not going to be hard to resign him since he is an RFA for another 2 seasons. So it makes no sense to trade him for a defenseman with 5 assists and a 47 corsi%

So trying to balancing ice time isn’t easy. You can’t just not play the older guys even it might be best for the team because then no UFAs will want to sign with you even if you are good. So right there you have 9 D in you’re rotation the you add in the injuries

Oilers take a chance on Tippett turning the worst Defensive player in the league into somewhat respectable so he isnt on the masters board.

Yah its totally up to your GM if they want to trade him or not, My trade for him was Legasson and a 3rd, Legesson still doesnt have to go on waivers, but Holland really likes him so he probably will not be traded away. The other trade I seen was Caleb Jones and a 2nd for AA, but I think Jones has to clear waivers next year. But no big deal, neither of us are in charge really. So its up to the big boys making th ebig bucks.
