not a horrid concept as MTL fans will probably explode on you for. However I believe Alzner is more buyout friendly, which is Alzner's impending fate.

difference of 400k because he's guaranteed money via signing bonus that Schneider is not
if we didnt give Alzner a 1.5m signing bonus then you'd have a fair point there

At this point the Habs are better burying Alzner in the minor since they have a lot of cap space. Leafs had to give up a 1st to get rid of Marleau's contact w/ only 1 year left so I imagine the Habs would have to give up much more than that
