I don't think PIT has the pieces to acquire Tuch. I think VGK would want the get a good young defenseman in a package if they were trading Tuch, and I don't think PIT has the defensive players that they would be interested in

What do you think PIT would need to add? I mean it was one good year but he has some pedigree. I wouldn't sell the farm but maybe the barn?

Ready now D or in a couple few years? I could get behind adding Addison for Coghlan, maybe adding a Vegas 3rd somewhere along the line.

With the way they are built, I think they want immediate help on D if they trade him. If I'm VGK, I would be looking at a Nurse for Tuch kind of deal (with the necessary additions on either side to make it work) which I think would actually be pretty beneficial for both sides. But same division, so more unlikely to occur. But a younger D that is comparable to Tuch would be my guess.

So the Penguins could offer Pettersson for Tuch then I guess? No thanks. Would rather trade Pettersson as part of a package to get Marner in the off-season.

well Pettersson wouldn't get you either player... and TOR would want RD, but Petterson is LD

Pettersson is 24, he’s a great shutdown defenseman playing a top 4 role on the Penguins. He brings value for sure. the Leafs, they can move Dermott or Rielly to RD.

He has value, but come on - he won't get you anywhere near Marner. And honestly wouldn't get you Tuch either unless it was Petterson+ or more.

Pettersson, Murray & 1st Round picks for Marner would be a pretty good deal for the Leafs. Tuch would probably cost Pettersson & 1st?

What would TOR do with Murray though? Why pay your goalies a combined $10m+? They just need a competent back-up, not Murray who can be a starter somewhere else. Seems like a waste of Marner's value. Petterson + 1st for Tuch makes more sense

What teams do you think could use Matt Murray heading into next season?

Sabres, Sharks, Red Wings, maybe Hurricanes, maybe Blue Jackets, maybe Devils, Wild, Oilers, and Flames are all teams that PIT could probably call up about Murray to see if they are interested

Thanks for letting me know. Say Murray plays well for the second half of the season. What type of return could he fetch? I’d have to think for someone who’s won 2 cups as a starting goalie, teams are definitely willing to pay.

I don't think you would have much trouble finding a suitor for Murray - 2 cups, still young, and an RFA. He should be able to get you some good pieces. Just an example, I bet he could get PIT Athanasiou+ from DET which would be beneficial for both teams.

Well, I'd rather trade my wife for Selma Hayak in the off-season, but that ain't happenin', either.

Las Vegas needs what Anaheim and Toronto need: a young RhD ranging from John Marino or Adam Fox to Brandon Carlo or Ryan Pulock (i.e., a clear-cut number 1/2 guy)*, but none of those teams are letting go of those guys.

*To pre-empt idiocy, I'm not suggesting those guys are all equal, or any one to any other.

I agree that they need RD more than LD, but Nurse would still be a pretty good get regardless. But if they can get an equivalent, or close to, RD then they definitely go that direction.

I've tried a few trades with BUF involving Murray for Miller (as a start, obviously other pieces) and have been torn apart for it. Murray hasn't been the same since Mike Bales left and PIT is very shallow at RD where BUF is pretty deep right now. It's the perfect hockey trade. I'd be fine with Murray, Gal (with 50% retained), POJ, 2021 2nd and 2020 3rd for Miller, Hutton, Fitzgerald and 2020 2nd.

In general, people on this site have a very short memory for the most part - just because a player is in the middle of a not-so-great year doesn't mean their value is all of a sudden 0. If PIT decides to trade Murray, there will be teams lining up to get a 2x Stanley Cup champion RFA that is still only 25 (soon to be 26) years old.

A lot goes into where he is right now as well. In the past 4 years, he has been promoted to the NHL ( when most, if any thought he'd ever be. Though plenty after the fact had him pegged....) won 2 Cups, signed a multi-year/multi-million dollar contract, lost his Father and got married. Been a busy couple few years for a 26 year old guy.
