He shouldn't. If he won't take less then Holland should let him walk... or better yet, trade him at the deadline. There's a reason they're in contract talks already...

I think Bear and Nurse will get more AAV and more term than that, Pageau may get more money too. Also, I don't think getting Gusev for 1 year is worth giving up 2 nice future pieces.

The hope would definitely be to re sign Gusev. I really think him and McDavid would kill it together. Then again most people kill it with McDavid. But I think he would especially. Plus I believe will have to give up Samorukov at some point with so many young defensemen.

Gusev will be 29, be careful about re-signing him. And whether or not they have to trade Samorukov at some point is irrelevant: they don't have to lose that trade.

Yes I understand but Samorukov is a guy we should get some value back for. He isn’t going to beat Jones or Bouchard in cracking the roster but is still probably good enough to make an nhl roster. If we don’t need him trade him for something we do need. A top 6 winger. And Gusev will be fine as long as we don’t sign him to a 6+ year deal. I doubt Gusev would even want to sign that long in Edmonton. The point I’m trying to make is Gusev will do a lot more for the Oilers than Samorukov will.
