Canes fans can answer better, but don't think Mrazek has been that poor to warrant a first rounder. Unless there is a injury to # 1 goalie, there just isn't much of a market for Lehner.

Kind of just picked a random team, what would you say it is, a 2nd and a rd perhaps? For a team that needs 1A/1B situation

only way the canes do this is if they know they have an extra 1st rounder from toronto (it's top 10 protected so it shouldn't be a problem but only time will tell)

This is the hardest thing to gauge in the NHL trade market right now IMO. There are definitely no shortage of opinions here. Hockey writers like Sean Maloughney have articles about what's a 1st round picks true value (articles below) and how important goalies are. I'm not in THAT extreme of a camp, but I do agree that goalies are MASSIVELY important for a cup run. STL fans can speak to this better than I can, but years and years of good teams, but no goalie...then BOOM! Binnington comes in and you win the cup and you're still in 1st place this year too.

I personally don't think Mrazek is a good goalie and this is the ONLY position that CAR needs to address especially with Williams back and playing well. The biggest problem I have With CAR's goalie situation is that CAR's defense ranks 5th best in high danger shots allowed, but somehow is ranked 21st in % of those shots turning into goals. That's 100% the goalie position and you're not winning a cup with that. ***EDIT*** I need to clarify that's what it was a week ago. I haven't looked today and CAR has played a bunch of 1 goal against games since***

Goaltending is everything in hockey. More so in the post season. But it is not just about making that timely save. Championship teams commit to defense. However, great goaltending doesn’t win hockey games without scoring . ***Flashback to Game 1 Hawks vs Blues ... first round 2016 playoffs. Crawford’s stops 41 shots. Hawks loses 1-0 in OT. If the Blackhawks win that game, do they win the series?

I think if the Canes commit to a goalie upgrade, then the organization must believe it can beat the Bruins, Lightning and Caps. And Pens can’t be ruled out either. The Canes may be good enough to defeat one of these clubs, but I can’t see them beating two or three. The trade off is surrendering the deep 1st round pick (who may help the club) two or three years from now. Realistically, Carolina is an up and coming powerhouse. I don’t see it this year. My feeling that should refrain from a goalie upgrade.

The team I think could use Lehner’s services, is Colorado. Tough though. Divisional deal rarely happen.

If this is a deep draft, then they should keep both picks. Carolina can always upgrade the draft order. Two players in the top 31. It should make the club better sooner.
