4 Trades 2020 TDL

Created by: RWellington
Team: 2019-20 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 24, 2020
Published: Jan. 24, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Petry: Poor man's 1st pair RHD, MTL is in shambles and my guess is a coaching change comes before a sell off. However come the TDL Petry could easily fetch a 1st round pick and prospect, EDM should come calling

Saad: 1st or 2nd line winger capable or playing either wing alongside elite C's, this all depends on whether or not CHI becomes a seller or a buyer at the deadline

Kerfoot: Excellent 3C, TO is looking to inject some grit into their lineup and Larsson may be just that. They have puck movers he could play with and D in front of him to limit his minutes.

Russell: WPG needs D, look at all their underlying number and its amazing they are where they are in the standings. Despite that they aren't taking 1 1/3 yrs of Russell @ $4M so if EDM retains & sweetens with a B - C level prospect is that enough to usher a deal?? If WPG doesnt pick up the phone on Russell Anaheim has allegedly made it known they will take on salary to add picks and prospect.

I'm not an Edmonton fan but if you are trading with Montreal wouldn't Tatar be a better choice over Petry?

Edmonton would be trading for a specific need after trading Larsson, nothing against Tatar. Furthermore I am a big fan of the way Petry plays and would prefer his services over Larsson moving forward

I really hope that the Oilers do not throw away draft picks just to make the playoffs. There is plenty of talent on the team right now to make the playoffs. No need to blow the team's future on a short-term gain.

Kerfoot, Saad and Petry are all extended beyond this season. This is not exactly adding rentals and EDM needs to start making the playoffs.
Trading picks and prospects for rentals is hardly ever worth it however aside from trading Benson, Bouchard and Broberg/Samorukov the Oilers can afford to deal a few in order to add to this group which already has many of its key pieces in place.

Fair value for Petry, but I don't think Montreal is going to trade him.

I would not even think of trading Benson, Bouchard, Broberg or Samorukov until we at least know what we have.

Bouchard, with his fluid, fast skating, and his insane point shot is going to be a key piece of the team in years to come. He could by a top-pairing RHD, of which the team will need after Larsson's contract runs out.

Samorukov is a potential draft steal (big, scored a lot in junior, hits people very hard). Still pretty raw, but he could be a dark horse.

Broberg was so dominant at world juniors, is unreal fast, and his coaches in Sweden rave about him being the second coming . . . very young, but already shows very high promise. He is going to be NHL-ready just as Oscar Klefbom will start aging out.

Benson could be a cheap, skilled 3LW who will hopefully give a hometown discount. At least give him a shot at the NHL level is what I would say.

Maybe someone like Caleb Jones or William Lagesson would make sense to trade since there are already many LHD ahead of them at the moment. Lagesson is far along in his development, but I do not know what his ceiling could be. Jones skates really well and already is starting to look like an NHLer, so a team might want to trade for him. It would all depend on what we could get back for either.

Ya no chance I deal any of those guys either, unless of course the return value is stupidly good.
