I look at it as Johansen retained + 5th + Saros + Watson for 1st + 2nd + 4th + 4th + Engvall + Bennett (flipping Hamonic to TOR). I'm ok with that and it allows for more offense in the lineup with the majority of his $8m off the books

I don't see him as a guy that will eventually be able to give you 60 games a year with consistency - so I'm ok with trading him to get some good picks, which the preds could definitely use. I think they just need some change and this is that.

Ingram is playing very well - see how he does as a backup next year and then sign someone like Greiss or Halak (if available) to split time with him for a couple of years til he can be the starter. Just a different look at the goaltending situation.

Detroit says Hell No Tolvanen hasn't proven a thing. Maybe add Tolvanen+Fabbro together to get the conversation started.

Fair enough - could swap him out for another prospect or something, but I would still think a former 1st, a 1st, a 2nd, and a 2nd starts some conversation. Fabbro would be a no-go, but getting 2 1sts and 2 2nds is a pretty good start I would think - no? What would it take other than Fabbro?

Yzerman would be at least wanting Ekholm in the deal. We need D help not more wingers that we already have an over-abundance of.

But would a 29 year old D really be what you're looking for? I actually think Carrier could be a good fit in DET as a PP guy - he's doing really well in the AHL this year and looks like he should be in the show next year. Maybe in another kind of deal, but I have thought he would fit well with DET.

Can you explain your logic on the Buffalo trade?

Buffalo would not be looking for rentals at the moment. They are well out of the wild card race in a tight Eastern Conference. So it would seem extremely foolish to give up 3 picks for a UFA only to save $2.5M in cap space for the rest of this year. Bogosian is a UFA and his $5M is coming off the books at the end of the year. Now if Granlund had 2 more years of term, this would be a different conversation.

I have seen numerous BUF trades on here where they go after Granlund with a mixture of bogosian/sheary/rodrigues/picks -- It may be a little late in the season now (considering whether or not they want to still push for playoffs). But Granlund with 50% retention could get a 2021 2nd and 2022 7th from a team making a push and then the extra 2020 4th is for taking the full Bogosian contract - gives BUF even more room to add more pieces if they want to (~$5m in cap space after this deal). And the picks are spaced over 3 seasons, so not as bad as if they were all the same year. But as you seem to be implying, maybe this deal is a little too late for BUF and another team could be slotted in their place.
