Are these fair

Created by: Price_is_the_goat
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 4, 2020
Published: Feb. 4, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These trades were made, according to what I think the market will look like, the players themselves, their contracts, team needs and production. I also took into account teams that have dealt with the Habs before
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Hague, Nicolas
  2. Merrill, Jon
  3. 2020 1st round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
Merill is a cap dump. Muzzin's return was a potential top 4 right shot offensiveminded D in Durzi, a bottom 6 winger in Grundstrom and a 1st rd pick (Really good pick in Tobias Bjornfot). Based on that, vegas sends Nic Hague (6'6 potential top 4 D man) Jon Meril (cap dump) and a 1st rd pick(late 20's) for Petry. CAP WILL BE TIGHT FOR VEGAS. Im sure they'll make some other moves as well
VGK
  1. Petry, Jeff ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Top 4 right shot Defenseman who is in the prime of his career for another 2-3 years. signed for another 2 years at a very very good number. He isn't a number 1 defenseman, but he's sure as hell a really really good top 4 who plays pp, pk and can move the puck. he's only for 3.5 Million for another 2 years. thatsa bargain considering vegas's cap situation IMO
2.
MTL
  1. Poulin, Samuel
  2. 2021 1st round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Tatar, Tomas ($1,000,000 retained)

Tatar is good, but no 1st rounder + top prospect good. He is only signed for 1 more season too. GMJR wouldn't do that. I'm sure he would be willing to deal the 1st, but the prospect in return wouldn't be a blue chip guy. You would be getting like a 20/21 year old AHL player.

than i think mtl can get a better return for tatar. he just hit 20 goals and look at that cap hit. if pitts wants to make another push, this is the year. schultz is up after 1 year too. it seems fair to me, considering tha t the 1st is next year, and the prospect is at least 2-3 years away from being a regular in the league

Lol, player with a cap hit of 1.3m on an expiring contract is not a “cap dump”. Added to make cap work, sure, cap dump...no.

But ya, it’s fair. Don’t know that either would do it. But fair.

its a cap dump because it equals out the salary, based on the teams cap hit. thanks for the feedback bud

Petry trade is debatable
But I don’t think they’d trade Tatar tots

well im asuming that by the deadline, mtl is like 8-10 points out, and they sell. now that could change. say andersen in toronto is done, than mtl has an opening to make a run, so unless teams are willing to overpay for petry/tatar, than i think mtl goes for it. before injuries hit, mtl was top 3 in the atlantic. now those guys are coming back. if andersen is out long term, tornto's season is done, and buffalo and mtl would want that last spot behind the bolts and bruins. just my thougts on it.

Andersen will definitely be playing again in about a week and a half at most
Twitter says it’s very minor and he will be practicing this week

yes, he was a relatively high pick, but so were Habs' Beaulieu and McCarron, doesn't mean he'lll become a top-6 or even -9 player in NHL ...

the 2021 is unprotected. so say pitts misses the playoffs, and mtl lands a top 3 pick? its a gamble, but well worth it imo

i would have blamced management 4 years ago. not now. they've changed the philosophy of the team and caught up. they've built an elite prospect pool thats top 3 in the league and are headed the right way. they arent to be blamed...yet

4 years ago was when they started the retool. u cannot retool in a year. rebuilds take even longer unless u land a mcdavid or matthews. patience is needed. poile has been gm for 21 years and has no cups. san jose's gm has been in charge since the early 2000's. bergy is on the right track. patience. what will the new gm do? he'd be adopting an elite prospect pool and he'll stay patient too. tatar and petry can be traded under any regime. but no gm can and will trade price/weber. so what diff will it make? the development team is turning it around with fluery evans mete. but patience is key.
