Exchanging skill for more skill isn’t it. We need to play Reimer more (know you agree), get a top 4 defensive defenseman (don’t care LH or RH), and not play forwards who are soft defensively.

Some additional grit in the bottom 6 would be nice too.

Hi. This is a fantasy trading site. People have fun with creative ideas to improve their team. Some people come around and get serious as if said trade were actually happening.

Personally, I think this Improves the Canes temporarily. Hall wants to test the market so it is purely just a rental, and that’s a lot to pay for a rental.

that’s an oversimplification, but if you want to look at it that way sure...

I don’t care about a defensive logjam, I want to add a quality top 4 guy. I don’t consider having to choose to sit Edmundson, Fleury, Van Riemsdyk as a logjam. Bigger problem is playing one of those three guys on our top pairing.

You don't have to play any of them on the top pair, if you move Gardiner to the top pair to play the Dougie role, have Edmundson and Pesce together, and TvR with Haydn. It's just Rod's deployment creating issues

It's literally what was working with Dougie in the lineup. Slight change on the 3rd pairing, otherwise it's the same system

Dougie was quietly having his best defensive season of his career...Slavin/Dougie was a top 3 defensive pairing in the entire league. Can’t replace that with Gardiner

Dougie was above average in xGA, but tops in the league for defenseman in xGF...as was Slavin. In xG Differential Slavin and Dougie were #1 & #3 respectively.

Solely looking at xGA is cherry picking stats. You aren’t replacing Dougie, and it would be foolish to think you can.

Okay, let's look at them as a whole. Dougie and Gardiner are comparable in xGF, CF, xGA and CA. Gardiner can literally play that role. Dougie sat that high in xG+/- because of his partner, when isolated, he was average. Looking at his GAR in comparison to Gardiner, Jake is just better... I don't know what else to tell you other than Jake is a left handed Dougie....
