Description

Obviously cernak is better than liljegren right now and he wouldn’t be traded in most circumstances. But Tampa is screwed cap wise and he’s a prime offer-sheet target. An nhl-ready defenseman with three years left on his elc and top-4 potential is tremendously valuable given how tight their cap situation is looking for next year

If Tampa is cap crunched, the Leafs should just offer sheet him. At the contract you signed him to, that would cost them a second rounder, which I would argue is less valuable that Liljegren

You could be on to something that Cernak could be a target in the off-season. But I think Tampa would look for NHL ready assets in return. Dermott could be the guy going in that type of deal, he's struggled to find consistency and to stay healthy in Toronto. He might be another left handed shot that Tampa is adding but he plays the right side well and could slide in nice beside McDonagh on a 2nd pairing.
