Daily Jack Johnson trade 3-Detroit

Created by: Chigurrhh
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 13, 2020
Published: Feb. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The third team following Ottawa and Anaheim is Detroit.

Detroit was also reportedly interested in JJ as a free agent, though under different management. But it doesn't look like they will be good anytime soon. This team could use some assets. JJ is a perfect tank commander.

Just wait till the offseason. There will be a run on defense men and then the "oh crap" period hits where there is no one of any value left. They you will get a Maatta trade.
Or after the first couple weeks in the season when a team gets bad injury news on the blueline. They you will get a Gudbranson trade.

Of course then we have to hope someone can step in and fill that role.

Even if they were interested that would of been Holland and since he is now in Edmonton you might want to try the Oilers. Detroit already has too many over the hill players over 30.

Yeah sorry no longer interested in Jack Johnson, Especially not for what he cost. Would rather have a younger cheaper cost LD.

That is one of the worst JJ trades i've seen by you. Daley is far past his best by date.
adding desmith and a 3rd.... all I can do is shake my head.
JJ isn't the problem. Daley would be.

Daley is indeed bad and past his best by date. So is JJ. The idea is that neither of them plays and the team actually gives Riikola a shot. Then Daley expires and we are rid of the contract for bad, aging LD.

DeSmith isn't exactly worth much at this point. He's not having the best year In WBS and his buried cap hit impacts the NHL team. A third an an AHL goalie seems pretty reasonable to get rid of three years of a bad contract. This opens up room for Riikola and POJ. 3.25 for a below average 3rd pairing guy is not ideal, especially with all the RFAs coming up.

I would point out that the current GM of Detroit is the one that gave Dan Girardi 2x$3million after he was terrible in NY and got bought out.

But since we are talking about Detroits interest in JJ that means absolutely nothing here.

Desmith is needed as a security blanket as no other goalie in the system is reliable enough to play on the NHL if Murray or Jarry goes down.
I would love to see Riikola get more time but the fact that Sullivan would rather have played Ruhwedl on his off side than put Riikola in is a pretty damning indictment of what the coaching staff thinks about him.
Hopefully Riikola has some strong games coming up.
