Toews is being brought in to change the entire attitude of the team and show them how to become winners.

No. You must not have seen Brett Pesce play. I don't care. I know he's William Nylander and he's very very good.
Brett Pesce is not worth that.

Well aware. You’re trading the best 5 on 5 goal scorer in the NHL for that. Culture can be had for a lot cheaper. For example the bruins brought in Recchi for the cup run. They didn’t trade Bergeron for him.

You are right in that Brett Pesce is worth more than that in terms of being a captain and right hand defenceman who knows how to play defence.

The Leafs definately need a leader like Toews to turn around their team and he is one of the best leaders in the NHL. Agree with you on Matthew's goal scoring abilities but Toews is much better in playing a shut down role against other teams top centres which is extremely valuable and something that Matthews has no clue or desire to do. This trade may not be that lopsided because Strome has alot of offensive upside and Matthews most likely will leave for Arizona when his contract expires.

Leafs refuse this request as planning to sign him as our third goalie.

You might be right in terms of talent level but not in heart which is the big problem with the current Leafs roster.

Do you really think that the Carolina Hurricanes had more talent than the Leafs on the ice last night? Hockey is a team game that requires talent and hard work and the hard work is the Leafs current problem and thus need to bring in some players that play much harder.

The hurricanes are an incredibly talented team, and pretending they're a bunch of try hards is pretty incredible.

They did not have the same talent as the Leafs had last night on the ice in Toronto and especially after Pesce was injured.

And? Theyre still very tallented, and very well coached. They didnt win just because they worked harder

They actually did win because they worked much harder than the Leafs. Carolina's two goalies were injured in the game and they inserted a 42 year old zamboni driver as their backup goalie and then then they rallied and totally outworked the Leafs in the third period to win the game and limited Leafs shots on goal. This was probably one of the most embarrassing losses in Leafs history. Hard work beats talent if talent does not work hard.

Lets pretend that is the only reason they won, not thst theyre elite defensively as a team or anything JUST that they worked harder.
The leafs have not lost every other game because they got out worked and trading for an older, worse player who has less term and still a monster cap hit isnt going to fix that. Especially at the cost of the current best goal scorer in the league.
There is a reason messier was only a great leader on some of his teams. Its not about one player.
