Making Detroit respectable but still bad

Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Team Explanation
Adding Eric Haula down the middle adds depth to a center position I dont think veleno is ready for just yet. Thought the injury history is worry some, having someone there to help the young is a nice addition. Adding Vatanen allows you to have a stronger D but not a great one

Trades
DET
  1. Gardiner, Jake
Additional Details:
Its clear that come next year when all the Canes D are healthy they will need to move one or two. Gardiner seems like the right pick as he hasnt fit the system as much as everyone would like.
CAR
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (EDM)
Adding a top 4 D who has the ability to score helps a young and weak Red Wings D
DET
  1. Saros, Juuse
Additional Details:
Getting some pure skill and a draft pick helps a team that needs to win now. also sheds the smallest cap as well
NSH
  1. Svechnikov, Evgeny
  2. Pickard, Calvin
  3. 2021 3rd round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
After a horrible season, it could be the ideal time to try and trade for Saros. Sending over Sev hurts but hopefully he can find a spot in Nashville. LW depth is too much with the addition of Aleixs
DET
  1. Roussel, Antoine
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (VAN)
Additional Details:
Getting similar player back with one less year and 2 million cap less
VAN
  1. Glendening, Luke ($800,000 retained)
  2. 2021 6th round pick (DET)
Additional Details:
Being able to free up come cap for Van while also getting a small draft pick in return

Detroit is going to have to massively over pay for any FA because of their current situation, they would probably be better off using available cap space to take on bad contracts for draft picks/young prospects before Seattle joins the league.

With Tampa’s cap trouble I think the chances of Stevie poaching one of their players is a good possibility. I think Tyler Johnson is a real trade candidate so long as he waives for Det

Yeah, but I have been really surprised by how competitive they have been. The hockey gods did them a solid after getting jobbed in the Duchene trade, with SJS going down the tubes.

Completely agree. I see Yzerman using the cap to his advantage

Saros is 9-4 since the coaching change. Started slow, but isn't having a horrible season. Definition of a horrible season is Jimmy Howard.
