The hope is that Green would be picked up by Las Vegas in the expansion draft so that Shattenkirk could get paid. This also reduces the known offensive production, but you have to make space to play the kids and pay up to get the defenders needed. I would also consider prospects instead of draft picks. Nothing too promising of course but maybe some projects to round out the Griffins.

Overpayment for Shattenkirk, underpayment for Vatanen.

That Howard trade is ridiculous... No way any team is giving you a second round pick in return. No one is buying Howard's contract. There are better goalies out there that hold better value. I don't see Edmonton valuing Sproul that much. 3rd round pick is high for a guy who hasn't seen much NHL action. Your definitely underpaying for Vatanen. The Wings need defense, but you have to be careful when it comes to cost and future contracts too. Who can you afford to resign? I guess BOLD MOVES was right...

Yeah, both the Howard and Sproul trades are over valued the more I think about it. However, both teams have need for what they are getting.

Yeah, I addressed the future contracts of Shattenkirk. It's a roll of the dice of course.

Seeing there's only one John Chayka, maybe the Smith trade happens...
