I think if the cap doesn't go up most teams will be worse than last season.

Well if you want to keep this trade (which is bad for SJ) maybe do something like not signing Dillon, trade Sörensen, trade Labanc’s rights and then sign a free agent like Dadonov or Toffoli. You can also sign Thornton and have Suomela as the 3rd line LW. Middleton could probably play as a 7th defenseman. You could also sign a cheap free agent for the bottom 6, 3rd pair defenseman, or 7th defenseman (I think I signed Grant and Rutta on my teams).

Sharks need to give Lehner a long term deal.
Haven't had a goalie worth a damn since Nabokov

I'd say this trade is a win for the Panthers

So I gather you assume that Florida is going to let Mike Hoffman walk? Because that's an essential pre-requisite of this trade, and not for salary cap reasons.

Sorry I don't understand. Why is that an essential prerequisite.

Mrs. Karlsson and Mrs. Hoffman have an unfortunate relationship -- one of them allegedly tried to kill the other.

Lehner would we way too expensive for us, especially if we keep Jones that's way too much money spent on goaltending. If we trade Jones that would also cost us a lot, like a b prospect and/or a 1st round pick. I would want to get a guy like Khudobin or Halák, maybe even re-signing Dell. Even Markstrom might be too expensive.

So continues on the decade old search for good goaltending.
SJ underachieved this year, bad injuries.
They have a good roster.
All they're missing is somebody to stop a puck.

They also need a better top 6. They have Kane, Meier, Couture, and Hertl. In my opinion, I don't think Labanc is a top 6 player. I think he would fit in best on the 3rd line RW. Sign people like Toffoli and/or Dadonov and trade for another top 6 like Killorn.

Is this team rebuilding?

Doug has said he wants to compete for the 2020-2021 season so I would think he would sign a big name in free agency and/or trade for someone for our top 6 and/or a goalie.
