CBO plus young lineup

Created by: LafreniereIsGOATed
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 25, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I sign Forbort just to give Romanov a few months (maybe from OCT to DEC inclusively) in the AHL to adapt to the North American style of hockey. If he isn't capable at all of playing in the NHL in 20-21, then leave him in the AHL for the entire season along with Brook, Fleury and Primeau. If, by December, Romanov is ready to play in the NHL, trade Forbort to a contender for a pick or two.

MTL drafts Raymond with the 2020 5th overall pick and chooses to leave him in Sweden for another season

No way Montréal makes that trade with Ottawa. Drouin is too important to the team, way more important than the difference of Raymond and Lundell. We also need a capable backup goalie that can fight with Primeau in the preseason. No chance Folin gets re-signed. Also that’s a massive overpay for Domi.

The habs would also never move Suzuki to the wing over Domi, and Weal wouldn’t be playing C unless absoloutely necessary. Poehling probably won’t be in the NHL to start next year, and if they had $10 million in cap space the habs would be able to pay Kovalchuk whatever he wants to come back (not that I think they’ll need to overpay to bring him back). Chiarot - Petry also wasn’t great, I can’t see the habs going with Mete - Weber & Chiarot - Petry over Chiarot - Weber & Mete - Petry.

The best trade I’ve seen involving the habs trading up in the draft. I like it

Is Raymond guaranteed to be better than whomever the Habs get at 8? Regardless of who you'd like better, there isn't enough data to suggest taking that risk. I like Raymond but not that much more than Lundell, Holtz, Rossi, Perfetti etc etc etc
