Guys will ask for more money? I had no idea. It still doesn't mean you trade away from the top end of you're roster. You trade the guys who price themselves out and replace them with cheaper guys. That's why drafting/developing/scouting is so important.

exactly drafting/developing/scouting is what makes a team great. Robertson and Mikeyv are prime examples of that. If mikeyv never got injured, Johnsson would have probs got traded at the deadline.

Kapenan is staying with the leafs sure johnsson is probably out but we have no interest in bringing those 2 guys in. Jones is a LD we want a proper top 4 RD. Second Adam Larssons contract to short. He would be up when rielly is up also the money hes paid way to high. Toronto as linked with him once but the deal never went through as Dubas is looking for a long term solution to the defense

The fact the Larsson's contract is only 1 more year is an advantage: he won't need to be protected in the Seattle draft. He can be re-signed after the draft but before July 1st without taking up a critical protection slot.

Jones is on a sweetheart deal for a 22 year old who played top-4 competently this season. Of course, he was paired with Adam Larsson, so that would have made it easier to face top comp, but still: 2 more years at $850k is a steal.

or the leafs can avoid that entirely by looking elsewhere for a trade. larsson may fit in but we aint trading 2 good forwards for him. (Dermott, Johnsson, and Kerfoot are probs gone in the summer)

I think in the last 36 games of this season, Larsson has been one of the best D in the league. Let me try to find the stats. If @CD282 was around, he would know

I don't have anything handy, but there was a recent article in the Edmonton Journal that I posted last week, maybe that's what you're thinking of?

Jones probably has as much value as Larsson does, in part due to his contract. Don't ignore that part of the deal.

Fair enough. I'm not arguing this trade works for the Leafs. Jones has a lot of value, I'd prefer to keep him.
