So if he end up being traded the return won’t be better then what Ottawa received for Karlsson. This kind of return is delusional even with a extension contract.

With no extension, I agree, he'd get somewhere around the EK return. Carolina would rather own-rental him and take their chances than deal him without an extension, though. They were about to do the same thing to Faulk before St. Louis came out of nowhere to offer up an extension. This is a team built specifically to win right now, and dealing someone as great as Dougie is makes no sense unless an extension has been agreed to and good-to-great roster players are part of the package coming back.

Even with a extension the return won’t be near what you have suggested here. Even Wayne Gretzky didn’t fetch such return, you must come down with those Hamilton trade. Yes he is good but when you trade a good players you rarely get even in value.

That's a massive exaggeration. Connor/Pionk/Samberg for Hamilton/Fleury/Dzingel is very much the modern equivalent of Heatley for Hossa or Subban for Weber. Two star players dealt for each other, one coming in with a long-term extension. There's absolutely precedence for this.

A precedent?? Connor for hamilton would be the deal. Samberg and pionk hold way more value than Fleury and Dzingel. Connor contract alone have a great value by himself. If Hamilton sign for 11 millions he doesn’t have the same value anymore, or he would have to win the Norris each year at least to justify that contract. This is just not happening. carolina will never received near that return.

Carolina dealt Lindholm and Hanifin for essentially 3 years of Hamilton and a couple of 2nds two years ago. I would say that Dougie was worth every single penny of that return and more (his GSVA score this season has been higher than Lindholm and Hanifin combined). I consider Lindholm and Connor to be equivalent assets in terms of value. Fleury and Dzingel, to me, are pretty equivalent in value to a 2nd round pick each. That leaves Hanifin, who at the time was a 21-year old defenseman that was drafted 5th overall just a few seasons before that. Then add that the deal is for 8 years of Hamilton, not 3, which means that the return to Carolina should be more valuable than Hanifin was at the time. IMO, Pionk and Hanifin are equivalent pieces based on when they were dealt, and Samberg makes up for the value difference between 3 and 8 years of maybe the best defenseman in hockey.

You still put way too much emphasis on ‘THIS YEAR’ or would i say is 48 game span. The fact is, those number doesnt represent what he average during is career. In fact there probably more chance that he return to the average number he posted for the prior year then getting those ridiculous number he posted this year.

Getting Hamilton is the defensive equivalent of acquiring Sebastian Aho. I know that I posted a VERY steep price, but I think it's worth every penny.

I don’t think you realize how good Connor is. The jets giving up a top of the league forward and there best defencemen for hamilton is just stupid and is one of the worst trades they could possibly make. Thank god you’re not the GM
