Description

I debated a number of options for trading Reinhart for a 2C then opted to go for the 1B. Florida cuts money in the long term (or at least buys cost certainty) as they can sign Reinhart now (in theory) for less money ($6-7M no state tax) than Barkov will get on his new contract in 2 years. Cozens gives them a cheap potential replacement with long term cost control and no way this deal gets done without a first. Matheson also appears to be a contract they want out from under for some reason (maybe Weegar & Yandle) and gives them a better 2nd line RD than Stralman. Short term cap increase for long-term savings.

Other trades considered:
Reinhart to AZ for Schmaltz & a 1st (could also add in Hutton -> Ranta angle here)
Reinhart & McCabe to MTL for Suzuki, Alzner (dump), and 1st - they really need a RW, cap dump Alzner to maybe chase Hall
Reinhart, Mittelstadt, & McCabe to DAL for Hintz, Honka, 1st, and probably something else - Can't really see them doing this as they need a 2C as much as they need an RW.

That value is pretty close I just don’t see why either side would do this trade.

Sabres to desperately fill 2C (though they could do it way cheaper). Florida...cheap? No real hockey reason they'd ever do it.

Yeah, they'd likely leave Florida first. I'll give up on the Barkov dream.

There are a group of guys that imo are just completely untouchable and Barkov is one of those guys. But hey if somebody did something stupid like 7 1st rd picks you never know.

Agreed
Especially with his contract, Barkov has gotta be untouchable
I sure would love him here though!

Maybe he gets traded when he’s due a big raise though?

I kinda liked the Dallas Idea the best I think Hintz is just what the Sabres need.

That was my thinking. If the mandate to cut salary from ownership is real then maybe they get ahead of it to maximize return. He is a UFA in 2 years so a team like Buffalo might pay more to have 2 years to convince him to sign.

Agreed. This was my favorite option but this opens a huge hole for Dallas at 2C. I can't see why they would do it unless they have a great prospect or 3 at C. Not too familiar with Dallas.

Best argument yet for not getting a CBO! Hope Florida loses a ton of money and panics.
