Length of contract aside if you wanted to show Mcdavid that you are serious about winning a Stanley Cup in the next 5 years you absolutely take that deal. Not one player in that deal helps you win a a cup, Doughty would definitely be worth it for the oilers as they are definitely a playoff team.
Vido liked this.

No way, you don’t win a Norris by accident, yes he has had some bad seasons on a very bad team but to me he’s absolutely a top 5 defenseman in the nhl and would flourish on a good team like he did when LA was winningcups

There is no length of contract aside. This is the NHL and it has a cap. We would be at 71 million with 15 players only and still no wingers for McDavid. Than after 1 year we would not be able to sign Yamamoto, Nuge and would have only 8 players signed with 55 million cap hit. That is brutal and we already have not forward prospects besides Lavoie. That is a serious problem and is definitely not the way to win in the NHL.

Just because he is overrated doesn't mean he sucks. He's only 30 years old and can probably play on a top line for the next few years. He might not be able to carry a rebuilding team but he can definitely be the firsts/second best defence-man on a winning one.
