Description

If I'm the Leafs I'd try to stand pat on Dermott's contract. Looked good the last 10 games or so but he wasn't showing much progression and playing like a 5-6 D before that. If you can't get him to sign then give him extra $500 K and move Gauthier to minors

Why would Mikheyev or Dermott sign that?

Mikheyev is an RFA with less than 40 NHL games and he played well in his games but limited sample size. Dermott again is RFA and hasn't shown he's anything more than a 5 D. Both are 1 year deals under this no-growth cap and are show me what you can with increased opportunity.

Aside from a tough recovery from a major shoulder surgery, when he looked rough for a month or two he exceeded expectations.

The kids 23. Not sure why 5 or 6 dman label is being held against him. Majority of dmen at the age occupy those roles, or are still in the minors.

Dermott doesn't take less than $1.5M on a 1 yr deal based on comparables. Also Mikheyev is playing in the KHL if that's all he's offered by Leafs.
