That being said.... I think that Johnsson can return a 2nd from a lot of teams. I really doubt the Leafs could get a 2nd + this bonehead for him though.

Someone posted similar deal recently. This is a tough deal to make even though it does help cap concerns from the Leafs perspective if that is what they are looking for.

So breaking this deal down

Johnsson is a much better well rounded pro then JP is currently and thar could change in a year two years or never. So the Leafs trade a player who they absolutely know who they have and thats a 20 goal scorer or very close to that on a very manageable cap hit for a prospect who may or may not be a top 6 fwd but. From a Leafs perspective cap issues aside this is a gamble adding the pick makes the Leafs think harder about this. If it was me i do this deal because of the pick. Just think of trying to explain to leaf fans how we traded a 20 goal scorer straight up for a guy who isnt going to make the team out of camp.

This is an easy call for Emonton trade a guy that hasnt helped your team and is likely a couple years away from helping your team for help now. The reason for wanting johnsson would be the same reason why the leafs want to keep him its a great contract and you know exactly what you are getting.

Everyone stops giving a **** where you were drafted as soon as draft day ends. Its a results oriented sport and the bottom line is JP hasnthad great results

That was my thinking Johnson is really worth a second but you take a gamble in JP who lets face it is worth next to nothing right now or he would've been traded already
