Description
Based on recent Leaf Report podcast (May 12) discussion of potential for deflated UFA market, resulting in ability to trade Johnsson and Kapanen for picks and cap space, and to then use the space for some bargain buys. Note - trade destinations for Johnsson and Kapanen don't really matter, this is more of a thought exercise - not really trying to find a match with the needs of other teams here.

why would we trade kapenan for that? He will only go if a true RHD is coming back

So would I, but I was also surprised when he signed for 800k last year, so I guess you never know.

If UFAs are so cheap why would teams trade good draft picks for players/capndumps. Cap dump = players needed to be traded to stay under the cap...

Johnsson value is fine but Kapanen is worth a 1st and he won't get moved unless a RHD is coming back.

That's why OP has Johnsson and Kapenen arguably being traded at a discount?

Kapanen may have fetched the Leafs a 1st in a normal off-season. But this off-season will be all about a cap-crunch. Expect to pay a premium to get rid of cap dollars.

Then they keep him lol. He won't be traded just to dump cap.
