It’s not 1 single piece, it’s that u want so many
Taking Lucic’s contract is worth a low 1st
Johnson was a low 1st
Making the playoffs next year is no guarantee, so who knows where the 2021 1st will be?

And the Sabres aren’t gonna “sell low” on Risto,
Botts has said so numerous times
He’d have been traded by now if we were willing to

And we aren’t gonna “sell low” on Mitts either
He was Botterill’s first ever draft pick
And while he hasn’t developed as quickly as we’d have liked,
he’s still a top10 pick with lots of potential

It’s just giving up WAY too much for Monahan & a bad contract
And saying Lucic has value bc he can provide grit doesn’t hold up... we can just sign a gritty 4th liner as a UFA for much less

Just out of curiosity, what do you think is a fitting return for Monahan (or other C in the same level)?

Well what “level” Is he?
Is he the low 60s point scorer he’s been for most of his career?
Or is he the ppg player he was last year?

He only had the one ppg season,
so i think you’ve gotta value him as the low 60s guy for the Sabres
Especially bc he just had a down season where he was only on pace for 56pts

And also,
bc his chances of getting back to that 82point range aren’t great considering he won’t get “1C” opportunity behind Eichel

So if he’s a low 60s point guy...
he’s worth 2 of the assets u proposed imo
But we’d probably have to take Lucic in addition bc other teams would be making offers too
Reasonable??

Not if you ask Flames fans.

I'd consider Monahan a constant 60+ point asset. This season is an outlier in a negative way.

So let’s say he’s a 60-something point guy...
How do u give up all 5 assets for him? That’s just crazy
*taking Lucic’s contract being the 5th asset

Easily, as none of the assets are exactly significant.

I could justify dropping one of the assets. But I can't see a great and cheap TOP6 forward moving cheaper than that.

Monahan+Lucic for Risto+Mittelstadt+1st seems semi reasonable, although if I were CGY I'd probably decline it.

You’re not looking at it from Buffalo’s perspective though
Mittelstadt for example:
The only way they’d trade him is if a team did see him as a “significant” asset
Why would they “sell low” on him?
If a team views him as a “B level” prospect now,
then they’d just keep him!!!

Botterill has said repeatedly since he took over the team that he wouldn’t trade Risto unless it was a very good return

So IF Buffalo were to trade either of those pieces,
they’d be “significant”

Same for Ryan Johnson
Why would Buffalo trade away a good young defenseman prospect picked in the late1st if he wasn’t seen as having significant value?
They aren’t gonna dump him, they’d just keep him

A 1st in 2021 is obviously significant as well

And there’s just no way u can say for a second that taking on Lucic’s sh!tty contract isn’t “significant”
Especially with the Cap NOT going up

Every single one of those pieces are SIGNIFICANT
If they aren’t, they take them out of the deal
Bc (again” Buffalo isn’t gonna “sell low” on these guys
Absolutely will not happen
