Draft Offseason Trades

Description
Honestly as much as some Sens fans believe that the team should stay the course and not trade any picks IMO I think they need to look hard around the league and look for someone to fill the biggest hole on the team...Chabot's D partner.

I do think however that Lassi Thompson and JBD will in the near future become good players in the NHL but I don't want to take a chance on their developments being slow or slowed by injuries. If the Sens could acquire someone like Ristolainen in this instance for a little cheaper than he would have cost 2 years ago I'd do it. Melnyk saying that we will be on the road to our unparalleled success by 2021-2022 season (I believe that's what he said) I would much rather watch Chabot have chemistry already built with a steady linemate instead of watching Thompson or JBD be thrust into that or another Hainsey Esqe (old veteran on one year contracts).

I went with Risto just due to age, right shot, experience and good contract. other players that I would add to the mix if they were able to be had would be Carlo, Montour, Valimaki or Rasmus Anderson, etc

Heres what i want the Sens to do. Draft 2 forwards with their top 2 picks. In this order of availability: Laf, Byfield, Stutzle, Raymond, Rossi, Holtz.
Then take Schneider with the Isles pick.
Then trade the 33rd overall and another 2nd to move into the late 1st round to take Tyson Foerster. Lucas Reichel or John Jason Peterka are also great options.
However, if Jarvis, Holloway, Mercer, Gunler or Quinn is there with the Isles pick id consider them over Schneider

I agree it's an overpay if it was any other team than Ottawa...thing is with buffalo and Ottawa both in the Atlantic you have to overpay to acquire him or else he goes elsewhere

I somewhat agree with that. I am just not a big fan of Risto and Ottawa should just use that pick and let Thompson and Bernard-Docker develop without the barrier Risto would provide.

Ottawa doesnt need Risto. We need shutdown guys, we have a lot of PP QB.

I agree but like I stated I comes down to they may take 2 years to develop in the AHL or just in slightly sheltered roles...risto can come in dive into the deep end playing chabot and develop chemistry right away. I would put my money on risto and chabot before JBD and thompson

Risto is a big shutdown mobile defender...the league is moving away from guys that are only shutdown defenders for big mobile quality puck movers. He hits, he skates and he can handle the puck. JBD and thompson are the same mould as risto but without the experience and development.

I'd like the sens to use the picks on forwards as well but there's absolutely no need to draft 6 guys and sit back while you twiddle you're thumbs waiting for them to develop when you can watch chabot and a player like Ristolainen develop chemistry and tee off when the "years of unparalleled success" kick off

Chabot-Risto would be the worst pairing ever. Chabot is too offensive and needs a shutdown guy next to him. Just like Methot was for Karlsson. Chabot needs to play with a guy like Cernak, Gudas, Carlo, Ekblad, Jones, Parayko, etc

Cernak would be nice but you'd have to offer sheet and even then would you rather lose the isles first rounder this year or the sens first and or second next year? Ekblad parayko Jones are all untouchable guaranteed. Gudas no thanks

Still no thanks. Would rather wait for JBD and Thomson. @Claesson4Norris

If good option aren't available, that doesn't mean it makes sense to make an obscene over payment for a bad option.

Sens can just draft a RHD like Grans, Schneider or Barron with that 1st and be fine.

My whole point has been have a current option that can play right away and start developing chemistry with chabot...I'm not sure how Ristolainen is a bad option by any means he's also not a offensive dynamo like was perceived earlier his career high is 45 points. There's other defensive duos that have worked that could be compared here Seabrook and Keith for example

Ristolainen historically is a huge drag on possession and has been a negative impact defensive player. His biggest strength is his offensive talents, which Ottawa would not need him for.

Getting a guy who is an established young Defensive RHD would be amazing, but if that's not there, Sens can afford to wait on JBD or Thomson.
