I'd re-sign Barrie way before I even consider that Nylander trade.

Honestly. The only way I'm trading Nylander is for a stud DEFENSIVE RHD like Pesce.

Pesce is over rated.

Agreed. Only way it makes sense is if the Leafs are getting back exactly what they need.

Not all 20 min/game RHD are created equal.

Pesce's easily one of the game's best defensive defenceman and if paired with Rielly I can see Rielly winning the Norris.

If I did trade for Pesce Carolina would definitely have to add. I'm thinking a 2nd or a 3rd and a decent prospect.

Fair enough. I would've probably added a bit to Carolina's side too to even out the value. But I think a 2nd/3rd AND a decent prospect (assuming you mean B or higher) is too much. You have to take into account Pesce's contract it's an absolute STEAL especially considering Toronto's cap situation.

According to cap friendly. He's not that great, needs a the perfect system and partner to be great. He is not at all worth Nylander.

Would Toronto be interested in Erik Johnson if some of his salary is retained by a 3rd team? So Toronto would get Johnson at ~$4m/3 years?

If you want a Carolina RHD you could try to pry McKeown out of there. He's an NHL ready defensive RHD but stuck in their defensive depth.

I don't want any of those guys. I like our d, I think with Keefe's system and the natural growth of young players this defence could become terrific.

I disagree. I truly believe he's an elite defensive defenceman. He's RHD on an amazing contract. As for him needing a partner to be great. What's better than one of the best offensive defenceman in Rielly being his partner. That pairing just screams perfection in my eyes. It's the perfect hockey version of Yin & Yang.

As a Leafs fan I'd be interested but I'm assuming you're not starting that deal with Nylander right ? Because that would make no sense lol.

Honestly we have some underrated youngsters on the blue line. My only concern is how much of that development will eat up years of contention ? Will that d-core even stay intact with all these players we'll have to re-sign soon (Rielly, Andersen for starters) ? Will Matthews walk as a result ? That's literally the only reason I think the Leafs have to upgrade that right side and do it NOW.

I'd have a really tough time giving up Nylander for Pesce straight up too. I made another trade for Pesce a week or two ago. Check that out and lemme know if you think it's fair value.

Zero years. Rielly, Muzzin, Holl and one of Dermott or Lehtonen are going to make a great top 4 and Sandin with whoever doesn't pair with Rielly will a terrific 3rd pair. Eventually Liljegren will also be a good cheap contributor.

It's just not needed. Pesce is like Mike Komisarek, he's good but needs a better partner, by himself he's not that great.

I really want to believe this will be the case. And to be completely honest I'd be fine if this is what we start the season with. Hopefully Muzzin can help with some of the young guys' growth too.

I think comparing Komisarek and Pesce is a bit of a stretch but I get the point you're trying to make lol. In the end we just need to hope that our current d-core can continue to develop and hopefully prove all the haters wrong.

Him and Holl are a very good shutdown pair. Rielly and Lehtonen will be possession monsters as will Sandin and Dermott.

He's better for sure but people on here think Pesce does all this stuff by himself. Slavin is the star and he makes everyone better. Pesce isn't bad, he's a good player but he's a #4 and the system and team he is on make him look so much better than he is.
