Initial Creation Date: Jun. 7, 2020

Description
Definitely not sure about the value for Gardiner and Reimer, but had to get some cap space for Lehner. Fantenberg brings value for a low cost as a sixth defenseman.

That's why I wrote that I'm not sure about their values. Would still trade both of them for less to add Lehner. And there's still cap space to give Lehner a bit more than 6 x 6.

He's -24, yes. But his corsi is 56,1%. For the right price I think Winnipeg, or any other team, would be interested.

His contract is bad for his level of play though, can't see any team wanting him for less than nothing or salary retention

I agree that his contract is bad for his level of play. I'm not a Gardiner fan, but I still think it's possible to find a trade.
Do you think it would be better to trade Skjei?

I’d give Honka and a third for Gardiner and Reimer if you’re clearing cap for Lehner. You get a proper righty to play with Fleury on the third pair. Reimer is for sure worth a third. Like some said above Gardiner is a solid player but not worth his contract which hurts his value. Moving Skjei is an option. He’s worth more than Gardiner but you won’t get back what you gave up which looks bad. So if I offered Honka and a third for Reimer and Gardiner, I’d prolly add a second to upgrade to Skjei. But that doesn’t get your first rounder back

Both are pretty bad from a dollar value standpoint but after watching Gardiner crumble in the playoffs in Toronto for multiple seasons, I don't think anyones winning a cup with him

I strongly disagree. I think he needs a babysitter, sure. Someone like... Brett Pesce, hey that's handy! Moving Skjei (who's still young enough to get someone to bite on his deal) is better because he's not needed now. If the Canes knew the season was going to halt, I don't think that trade happens because now they carry 10 NHL calibre D men. Fleury and Bean give cheap depth to the blueline, and bang. It's still the best blueline in hockey and it has Gardiner on it.

There's talk that Lehner wants 7x7 and reportedly Detroit is willing to offer him that much. Doubt he takes 6x6 he wants term and money.
