What no Draper?!? I agree, we will get another season of 52 out there and all this talk of getting another Dman is BS. Holland doesn't have the balls to trade away any of the swedes or anyone else to help our D

Totally agree Holland will never make any meaningful trades he will go with Ouellet instead of trading for Fowler or Shattenkirk or any one else here. And we will still struggle to get the puck out of our own end.

I assume someone (Ott) will be waived when Pulkkinen is ready to return? Or is he on a two way deal? The forward group looks okay but they really need to score more this season. The goalies should be alright. But like DonVito said, the defense was not really addressed and it has been so-so since 2012. Good luck, you'll need it.

Yeah that's my thinking as well that Ott is the most likely one to get waived and even if he doesn't get claimed his entire $800,000 can be buried in Grand Rapids. And yup it's looking like once again the Holland will fail to address our bad D both Kronwall and Ericsson have knee and hip problems respectively so we need to do something to upgrade our horrendous D here. But most likely nothing will get done.

Difficult to get things done when there is so little cap space and so few desirable trade material that the Wings could offer.

Exactly Holland is killing us with these bad contracts, And like you say when you don't have to many desirable pieces it's pretty hard to make a deal. Pretty sure that GMs want either Mantha or AA included and Holland isn't willing to part with either one so it makes it hard to make a deal here.

RedWingFan56: That's what I meant. The best trade material the Red Wings is some young guys who are cheap, the future and better not be traded away. It appear that the Wings are going to wait out some of these contracts. If I was betting, I think Detroit and the Rangers are two playoff teams that don't make the post season in 2017. Rangers are in the same cap/talent situation as the Wings. Just didn't really make any improvements over the summer.

Yeah its starting to get really bad.

What was the rush to sign Vanek and Ott? Why are they paying Abdelkader/Helm/Ericsson that much for that long? I'm starting to think guys like AA/Ouellet/Mantha will be 28 by the time they are full time players in the NHL.

Let's seriously hope that is not the lineup we see, especially that fourth line. That would be far and away the worst 4th line in the NHL.

Franzen is going to be "Prongered" this season, negating his cap hit and freeing up almost $4M. Zetterberg, Kronwall and maybe Ericsson will go by the same route soon. That will get their hits off the limit, freeing up over $15M more. Four guys on your team that are on decline with longer term contracts. Holland knows as well as any GM how to exploit the CBA, even if he can't trade or sign FAs very well. Plus, your organIZation seems to be as stacked as ever. I could see the wangs returning to relevance/glory within 2-3 years. My team, a long time rival in the Hawks, is in a different situation right now but may be similar in few seasons. Because they are so top heavily paying and securing their core (not necessarily a bad thing short term), they lose key prospects and young guys all the time. That is how Bowman chooses to manage. At least Holland is able to keep his very top young assets while he waits for attrition to take over.
