Would that be a one-year ELC that would make him an RFA when the offseason starts?

Yes, he can sign long term on November 1st as an RFA. I would still only expect a 2-3 year "prove-it" pact before a true cash though.

That actually makes a lot of sense for Sorokin IMO. He gets his ELC money upfront and then gets a nice deal in November.

It's possible he signs a deal in Europe with an NHL out-clause. But I'm totally speculating. Sorokin would want to have to do it and I imagine the Isles would need to allow it.
