Leafs Announce Phase 3 RTP Roster

Created by: MG1986
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 12, 2020
Published: Jul. 12, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Per Leafs official twitter page, their Return-to-Play roster has been announced.

A few surprises. Neither Nic Petan nor Pontus Aberg (who recently signed in the KHL, I believe) is listed on the roster. I also found it interesting that Garrett Wilson did not make it, but Tyler Gaudet did. Mac Hollowell making the cut is also great news as far as where the Leafs believe his development is. Not surprised at all, and had been basically previously confirmed that Jeremy Bracco is not on the roster.

Does this mean the Leafs won't bother giving Bracco a qualifying offer and let him go >?

Not a fan of tiny Dmen, so I don't like Hollowell.

Not a fan of tiny forwards either, so Petan and Malgin can just go away. (I'll give Robertson a chance but I'm not overtly excited)

Wonder why Wilson didn't make roster? He was a good #13 forward in PIT.

What do TOR fans think of.......
RHD- Hallowell & Duszak? Future #6-7's??
How bout Abruzzese, Think he has a NHL future?

They would never ever say otherwise until probably game-day.

I think he's as good as gone, but I don't see the Leafs giving him away for nothing. He'll probably be packaged as part of some sort of deal, but I don't see him playing with the Marlies next season. I would give Hollowel a chance. There are cases where skinny D have excelled in the NHL, and I still think he's 2 solid seasons away.

I was surprised with Wilson too. He adds some grit to this group for sure.

I like both young defenders. I think Hollowel has the potential to be a top-4. I am not prepared to call him a depth piece, because he's done everything, and more, this club has asked of him, especially considering he started the season in the ECHL, as did Duszak. I'd beg Duszak at 5-6-7. His play reminds me a lot of Ian White, but as Tyson Barrie clearly showed up this season, you need to do more as a defender then just pure offense. So, question marks on both of them, but they are developing well. The real question should have been what the Leafs think about Justin Barzeau? :P He had a great year, in the ECHL, mind you. Otherwise, I am not sure any of the Leafs forward prospects beyond Robertson and maybe Abramov have a legit shot at breaking into the top-6. There could be a bunch of quality depth pieces though.
