Lets say the Hawks get 1st Overall then trade it away

Created by: Stan_Bowman_Burner
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 27, 2020
Published: Jul. 27, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just kicking the tires on value for a Seabrook + 1st Overall package deal. Put your pitchforks away lol

Trade gives Eichel a star LW to play with for years and allows the Hawks to still grab Askarov at #8 if they would like.

  1. Ristolainen, Rasmus
  2. 2020 1st round pick (BUF)
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Obviously hypothetical, but pairing Laf with Eichel could elevate Eichel to another level.
BUF
  1. Caggiula, Drake [RFA Rights]
  2. Seabrook, Brent
  3. 2020 1st round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
To be honest, I have zero clue what pairing Seabrook with the #1 overall does to it's value, but if Laf is the next big thing as they say...I don't think Seabrook decreases the value too much.

CHI
  1. 2020 4th round pick (MTL)

Tough but don't think you pass on that. Seabrook will be heading to Robby Island soon.

I like how you had to hype up the trade for Buffalo, like they don't already know what they're getting. This is certainly a way to get rid of Seabrook's contract, but just a really bad one. It's like one of those "I won, but at what cost?" memes.

If Seabrook is healthy after his surgeries, he could play bottom-2 minutes and still be somewhat serviceable for an already decent blueline. Or they could buy him out for the remainder of his deal and he could ride off into the sunset. Either way, if Seabrook is able to be traded, this might be the only way.

Now you're hyping up Seabrook. First you gotta have him waive his no-movement clause, only to go to Buffalo. Then you assume he's somewhat serviceable. Remember he got scratched this season so that Koekkoek and Gilbert could play (Yikes). And no way a team is buying out his contract.

You can move him. Just not now. Three things also have to fall into place.
1.) a team is actually comfortable taking his contract
2.) Seabrook is fine with moving to that team
3.) Seabrook has to be okay with going on LTIR

I think everyone in the Hawks organization knows that Seabrook would be approached about his NMC if the situation were to arise. If his surgeries causes more setbacks, then he's got no choice then to go on LTIR like Hossa and Bolland and ride out the rest of his deal. Or, if his surgeries work out and he's healthier then he has been the past few years, then I don't see why he wouldn't consider waiving his NMC to go somewhere to play 12-15 minutes a game and to mentor the younger defenseman. The man won 3 cups, I think he'd be okay with leaving if it came down to it, as opposed to watching from the press box 40 games out of the year.

Hawks won't trade the #1OA for anything. He's exactly what they need. The contracts will work themselves out.

Buffalo say no thank you, It's somewhat tempting but his contract is literally cancer. Even if you removed 8oa I still would probably say no due to its length.

Seabrook is barely a 5/6D at this time and he still has far too many more years before his contract finally ends.

I'd take Keith instead of Seabrook but only because he still has some use. The Sabres don't have 7mil in cap space to just jettison into space.
